BIOGRAPHY
Sophie Nélisse moved with her parents to Montreal when she was 4 years old. She first appeared on screen in Canadian commercials at the age of seven. Supported by her parents, her brother, as well as her little sister, Isabelle Nélisse , who launched her career as a child actor, she obtained her first role in 2010 in the series “Les Parents”. She first plays a secondary role before becoming the main character of the Canadian series.
It was in 2011, in the Quebec film Monsieur Lazhar , that she became known to the public. She plays Alice, the favorite student of Professor Lazhar played by Fellag . The young actress received the prize for best secondary actress at the Jutra Award (Canadian festival) for her first feature film.
The film gets her noticed in the professional sphere. She therefore continued the following year with Luc Picard ‘s film , Esimésac , before being asked for the lead role in The Book Thief , by Brian Percival . She is nothing short of the film’s headliner and stars alongside Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson . This role earned her three awards: Best Newcomer at the Nevada Film Critics Society Awards, Best Young Actress at the Phoenix Film Critics Society Awards and Revelation of the Year at the Satellite Awards.
Having become one of the most sought-after young stars in Hollywood, the young girl however refuses to fall into the Miley Cyrus syndrome : her career is supervised by her parents, so that the young girl becomes an accomplished actress. However, she is expected in two other films in 2014, Pawn Sacrifice , by Edward Zwick and The Fabulous Gilly Hopkins , by Stephen Herek , where she plays the title role and stands up to Kathy Bates and Glenn Close .
