Sevilla Enter Race to Sign Ndidi, Challenging Barcelona
Sevilla, a La Liga team from Spain, has joined Barcelona in the pursuit of Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.
The team is in the process of restructuring their midfield after securing the services of Boubakary Soumare from Leicester City on loan for this season, but they are eager to bolster their squad with the addition of Ndidi.
According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Ndidi would need to be willing to accept a significant reduction in salary in order to make the move to the Sanchez Pijuan stadium next summer.
Meanwhile, Ndidi and Leicester have not yet reached an agreement on a new contract, and it is likely that the 26-year-old will depart from the Foxes at the end of his current contract.
Many observers believe that Ndidi is a player of a much higher caliber than the Championship level, yet he has been compelled to play in England’s second tier this season as he was unable to secure a transfer in the summer.
The Nigerian international has made 12 appearances in the Championship this season.
He has also participated in three matches in the Carabao Cup this season, in addition to his previous appearances in both the Premier League and Europa League, amounting to 252 games for the Foxes since his £14 million transfer from Genk in 2017.
Reports suggest that Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus have also been monitoring Ndidi with the prospect of securing his signature on a free transfer at the end of the season, making it an ideal deal for Sevilla.
