Born Elena Delle Donne on September 5, 1989 in Wilmington Delaware, the prolific footballer, is an American of white ethnicity. She has hazel eyes and brown hair and was raised in a Catholic Christian household. She has an older brother, Gene Delle Donne, and an older sister, Lizzie Delle Donne, the youngest child in her family. Elena was educated at the Ursuline Academy and attended the University of Delaware.

Her journey to fame began in high school at Ursuline Academy where she played basketball and volleyball. Doing well in high school, she received a basketball scholarship to the University of Connecticut where she started but quickly dropped out because she wanted to be close to home. So she enrolled at the University of Delaware, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in human services. in 2013.

At Delaware, she started playing for the volleyball team, but retired from the team in 2009 after losing a spot in the NCAA tournament. She joined the basketball team in 2009 announcing that she was all for the Blue Hens. Elena Delle Donne led the team to many victories in different tournaments and competitions until her graduation.

The same year she graduated, she was selected second overall for the WNBA draft in 2013 by the Chicago Sky. Her excellent play saw her named the WNBA’s Most Outstanding Player for the 2015 season. Following an injury that caused her to forget much of her the 2016 season and since his rookie contract was up, Elena was traded to the Washington Mystics.

Her stay was cut short when Lyme disease resurfaced and forced her to return home to the United States.

For her part, Elena gives a lot of credit to her mother for helping her to love herself without regret, especially since her other sister Lizzie was born deaf, mute, blind, suffering from cerebral palsy and autism. According to Elena, her sister’s condition helped her see her body in a whole different light and she soon began to put her height to good use.
