Champions League last-16: Michael Owen makes Man Utd, Newcastle predictions
**Michael Owen’s Predictions for Man Utd and Newcastle in Champions League Last-16**
Former England international, Michael Owen has shared his predictions for the Champions League round of 16, backing Newcastle United to qualify and suggesting that Manchester United will not make it through to the next stage.
In crucial games this week, both Newcastle and Man United are vying for a spot in the ongoing Champions League. Eddie Howe’s team will take on AC Milan at St. James’ Park on Wednesday, while the Red Devils are set to host Bayern Munich at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
Owen expressed his optimism for Newcastle’s chances, saying: “Newcastle were incredibly unlucky not to get the three points against Paris (PSG). Everybody is unanimous in that not being a handball and they were very unlucky to concede. It put a completely different complexion on the game. Having said that, Newcastle are still in with a strong chance of qualifying. I’d fancy them at home against AC Milan considering their support and momentum. I fancy them to win at home, and you wouldn’t be 100% sure that Paris will go to Dortmund and win. Newcastle still have a good chance, but they would have had an even bigger one had the penalty not been given.”
However, in the case of Manchester United, Owen expressed skepticism: “I can’t see Manchester United qualifying. I don’t think they’re good enough. I want all the English teams to do well, but I just don’t think Man United have done well enough to reach the next round.”
