Bob, born to Augusta and Herman Kahn, spent his early years in New York City. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School and later pursued art studies at Cooper Union. His career began as a trainee animator at the Max Fleischer Studio in 1934.
By 1937, he joined Jerry Iger’s studio, Eisner & Iger, which was involved in comic production. Bob created numerous works, notably contributing to the animal feature “Peter Pupp” in “Jumbo Comics”, “Ginger Snap” in “More Fun Comics”, and “Professor Doolittle” in “Adventure Comics”, significantly adding to his net worth.
In 1939, when DC Comics was seeking new heroes following the success of Superman, Bob created the superhero Batman. Batman debuted in “Detective Comics” #27 in May 1939, leading to instant success.
